Day 1: The 5-Minute Rule

Beating Procrastination

Did you know that starting something is half the battle?

Research shows that our brains resist what feels overwhelming, so even thinking about a big task can trigger avoidance. When you commit to just 5 minutes, the “hard part” (getting started) feels manageable.

Why it works:

This taps into the Zeigarnik Effect, a concept in psychology that explains why our minds are wired to finish what we start. Once you’ve begun—even just a little—your brain’s natural drive to complete things kicks in, giving you momentum.

Here’s how to apply it:

Pick a small task you’ve been avoiding, and set a timer for 5 minutes. No pressure to finish—just start. At the end of those 5 minutes, you’ll likely find it easier to keep going, even if it’s just another 5 minutes.

I Dare You to set that timer and just start.

Let me know what you tackled in those 5 minutes—big or small, a start is a win!
